The Mercante family immigrated from Castelli to Brantford in the 1950’s. Having ourselves visited those mountains on a few trips and having fallen in love with them, we decided on that name for our restaurant.
The passion for great food and the love of family is brought together in our menu where all our dishes have been named after family members and surrounding area towns.
We have enjoyed entertaining and cooking for friends and family for many years, and opening a restaurant has been a longtime dream for us. Together with our children John, Christina and David who work alongside with us, and the support of all our family, we are fulfilling that dream.

It was such a delight to stop in with my hungry and tired family on our way home from a long trip. It was such an amazing experience that we left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated! Delicious food and fantastic service! I’d go back again and again!
Wow! So impressed with this authentic Italian restaurant…with warm, welcoming atmosphere. Visually, the dark coloured walls with the natural elements of stone and wood paired with dim lighting, open kitchen concept created an intimate setting.
WE go to Grand Sasso several times every month. Love the food, wine and service. It’s cozy, comfortable.,relaxed. We often feel like we don’t want to leave!
Caesar salad, beef tenderloin with grilled veggies and grilled pepper and potato, very good as usual. Family run restaurant, friendly and accommodating.
Our only regret is that we hadn’t tried Gran Sasso sooner! Outstanding meal and outstanding service tonight. The authentic appetizer salads, pizza and pasta dishes were all, in a word, perfect. Highly recommended. We plan to return soon … like next week.
